Mark came across the following news item – “Meditech Pulls Out of HIMSS 2009” (http://histalk2.com/2009/02/06/meditech-pulls-out-of-himss/). Will we see other vendors follow suit? As Mark and I are both based in Canada, the future of Canadian events such as the annual eHealth conference is certainly a topic for debate.
In general, I think that the value of trade shows will be more frequently debated and discussed by vendors as they seek to get the best return on their marketing dollars. The Internet has made it possible to share information with in a variety of different ways, not only at a reduced cost but in more detail and more finely tailored to the need of individual clients. We have seen other major trade shows such as Comdex or MacWorld Boston wither and die and I wonder whether shows like the annual HIMSS conference in the U.S. or the eHealth conference in Canada will suffer the same fate?
Mark, what do you think?
